One Ton Post

One Ton Post

There’s something special about pulling up beside a piece of Australian history.

A stop at Mungindi’s iconic One Ton Post is a favourite for caravanners exploring the Moree Plains. The Post tells the story of Australia's early pioneering history, marking surveyor John B Cameron's journey along the 29th parallel to map the border of NSW and Queensland. His journey began in 1879, and he placed the One Ton Post in 1881 to celebrate the conclusion of the survey.

Located on the QLD side of the Barwon River, the One Ton Post is more than a photo stop. It’s a reminder of the pioneering spirit that helped build Australia and a chance to pause, take in the landscape, and connect with the stories of the outback.

Travelling with the van? Add Mungindi to your route, settle in for a while to discover the heritage, warm country hospitality, and quiet beauty waiting on the banks of the Barwon River.
