Mother's Day done right!

Mother's Day done right!

A Mother’s Day Weekend to Remember in Moree

If Mum deserves more than flowers this year (and let’s be honest—she does), this is your sign to turn Mother’s Day into a full-blown weekend escape. Think good food, warm sunshine, wide open space and just enough indulgence to make her feel properly spoiled.

And with the Moree on a Plate Food and Wine Festival landing on the Saturday, the timing couldn’t be better.

Day One – Friday: Arrive, Relax, Mum’s Officially Off Duty

The minute you arrive in Moree, the rules change: Mum is no longer in charge. No planning, no cooking, no “what’s for dinner?”—this weekend is handled.

Check in, drop the bags, and head out for a gentle wander through town. There’s something easygoing about Moree that makes everyone slow down without even trying.

Ease into the weekend at the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre, where the naturally heated pools do most of the work for you. Kids splash, adults float, and Mum gets her first real moment of “ahhh, this is nice.”

Dinner is simple and relaxed—no fuss, no rush. Maybe a pub meal, maybe takeaway enjoyed back at your accommodation. The goal is clear: keep it easy, keep it enjoyable, and let Mum do absolutely nothing.

Day Two – Saturday: Eat, Sip, Celebrate (Repeat)

This is the main event—and it delivers.

After a slow start (and ideally someone else making Mum a coffee), head to the Moree Racecourse for a full day at Moree on a Plate.

From the moment you walk in, it’s all colour, flavour and country charm. Think grazing your way through the region—sweet local pecans, fresh citrus, olives, wine, gourmet treats—and not having to choose just one thing.

Let Mum set the pace:\ A tasting here. A cooking demo there. A shady spot to sit with a glass of wine while the kids enjoy the family-friendly activities nearby.

There’s live music, smoky BBQ drifting through the air, and plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the day without feeling rushed. It’s the kind of event where everyone—from toddlers to grandparents—finds their groove.

By the end of the afternoon, you’ll be full, happy, and probably carrying a bag (or three) of local goodies to take home.

Back in town, give Mum the choice:

  • A quiet night in (highly likely)
  • Or one last soak under the stars at the artesian pools (highly recommended)

Day Three – Sunday: Mother’s Day, Done Right

No alarms. No rush. Just a slow, easy morning.

Start with breakfast or brunch in town—something relaxed where Mum can sit back and enjoy being celebrated properly (coffee first, always).

If you’re feeling motivated, take a short drive out into the plains for a bit of fresh air and space. Or keep it simple and head back to the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre for one last soak—because honestly, that might be Mum’s favourite part of the whole weekend.

A small gift from the festival—local treats, something handmade—makes for the perfect thoughtful touch before heading home.
