Street Art: Stories in Public Spaces
The Moree Mural Trail - Over the past decade, Moree's buildings have become canvases for impressive large-scale artworks that celebrate the region's stories, people, and landscape. This evolving open-air gallery turns a walk through town into an immersive cultural experience.
Agricultural Heritage - Artist J. R. Ellis made his mark in Moree at the height of one of the worst droughts our shire had ever experienced. The artist travelled from his home in South East Queensland to brighten spirits in the bush with images that honour our agricultural roots and community spirit. You will find his artwork throughout town, with highlights at the Moree Race Club, Roslyn Lane and Statewide Aviation at Moree Airport.
Remembering one of Moree's favourite artists - The late Marg Adams is recognised as one of Moree's most successful artists. An important member of Moree's Gamilaroi community, Adam's work is held in the collections of the Art Gallery of NSW and NSW Parliament House. To honour her legacy, the Friends of the Moree Botanic Gardens commissioned fellow Gamilaroi artist Kylie McNamara to recreate one of Adam's paintings on the wall of the old Visitors Centre at Lyle Houlihan Park. The mural honours Adam's bold colours and contemporary representation of ancient Gamilaroi stories
The Freedom Ride - A key milestone for Moree was the 1965 Freedom Ride, led by Charles Perkins, which travelled from Sydney throughout NSW to expose the unjust treatment of Indigenous peoples throughout Australia. In Moree, the Freedom Ride is credited with the desegregation of the Moree Municipal Pool and Town Hall, and the anniversary is still celebrated to this day. The mural on the wall of the Yaama Ganu Centre on Balo St, is a contemporary reflection on the importance of the Freedom Ride and a future of peace through reconciliation.
