Gurley

Gurley

Located along the rail corridor connecting Moree to Sydney, Gurley is a small but character-filled farming community set within the fertile agricultural landscape of the Moree Plains Shire. Surrounded by broadacre cropping country, the community offers travellers a scenic snapshot of the region’s strong connection to grain production and rural industry.

Gurley’s grain silos stand as local landmarks, reflecting the importance of rail and agriculture in shaping the town’s history. Seasonal harvest periods bring movement and energy to the area, while the quieter months reveal peaceful country roads and expansive horizons perfect for relaxed touring.

Gurley's prime position on the NSW inland rail corridor is part of its history and its future. The Gurley Siding Railway Station was first opened in 1897 followed by the Gurley Siding Post Office in 1898. Although the Station has been closed for many years, the rail line is still used daily, transporting travellers from Moree to Sydney. This is now a part of the newly built Inland Rail, providing essential transport for agricultural produce from paddock to port.
